Please put captured pieces on the proper side. Please.
Yes, but not only online, neither OTB I care about pieces which are off the board. OTB they could even been mixed with pieces from other games. I think it is better to get used to focus only on the board.

A fair point to be sure, and I respect it: focus on the board. However, since they indeed are displaying the captured pieces on this site, at the very least they should do it properly.
I always place captured pieces back on the board, just in front of my opponent's first rank, right under his nose - every psychological edge helps. Surely that KantBeWrong.

A meaningful point, but that's not what's happening here. The captured pieces aren't being placed under anyone's nose; they're being placed along the side. I want what I take to be placed on my side because it's mine, I took it, and as far as I can see, that's a superior psychological blow — my opponent being forced to eye his own army in my prison camp.
I place about 10 captured pieces on the board's edge near my opponent's King, then when I launch a 5 piece assault, he feels like I've got about 15 pieces attacking him.
Then I would say that he has severe emotional issues, delusion being among them. That sort of trickery may work on some players, but in the end, the game is won by what's on the board, not what's lined up beside it. Due respect, but that's akin to hoping your opponent will fall into fool's mate if you stare into his eyes.
I've always thought that it's bad luck to be superstitious. ![]()
Believe it or not an OTB player put captured pieces on top of the clock!
When told to remove them he put put them under his chair. He was positionally challenged!!
I also fully support this idea.
What's even more confusing is that the black pieces on your black side are the pieces your opponent took from you (your loss), whereas the +2 or +3 that the site notes just next to these denotes your own advantage. As a new user on the site I find this very confusing.
Completely agree with this. It's really weird to see your own captured pieces on your side of the board and the nomenclature +2, +3 is also confusing.
Good stuff for a Friday. Well done Manny!
Well, thank you! How did you know my nickname?
If not for everyone then how about an option to put them on the correct side. Was one of my first requests on joining. It's just weird handing the taken pieces to your opponent so they can place on their side.

But that contradicts what you just said in post #9.

Indeed! That seems like the best option...
As a computer programmer with 30 years experience, I have a pretty good grasp on what are difficult fixes and what are easy fixes.
Since I can empathize with the programmer(s), I would hope that the code is sufficiently encapsulated such that placing captured pieces is an isolated procedure or set of procedures, meaning that making changes in that area won't affect other code.
Imagine playing a tournament game, and each time you capture a piece, you stand up, reach across the board (praying that you don't disturb the board), and set down the captured piece in front of him or somewhere on his side of the table.. That is not only rude, but is not the way things are done.
Please make this hopefully simple code change a priority. It's too much of a glaring "who cares?" current setup, unworthy of this site's caliber and reputation. And God help people with severe OCD issues.
Seriously, thank you for your kind and prompt attention to this matter.
