Blitz Tournamet Rules

Hi All,

Yesterday I had an incident were I captured a piece that was in a dark square with my light squared bishop. The opponent claimed 5-6 moves later that this was an illegal move. The arbiter had no idea how to proceed, he claimed illegal move and I lost due to his rulling. What are the official rules regarding this type of incident, I've searched online but have found no answers. Thanks!

It depends on what rules the tournament was held under.  Was it FIDE? USCF?

Under USCF blitz rules, the move would stand if the opponent has "determined a next move" without making a challenge.

3b.) If an illegal position is created or an illegal move made without the opponent making a claim, the position stands and a claim not allowed when the opponent has determined a next move.

See: http://www.uschess.org/docs/gov/reports/BlitzRulesChanges.pdf

That seems a little nebulous. To me, "determining a move" has to mean making a move and hitting the clock without challenging the move.

Certainly no challenge should have been allowed after five or six moves.
