1. No sponsors.

2. People would cheat: use engines, mirror games, collude & throw points etc.

3. Cheating detection isn't fast and effective enough, e.g. throwing games can't be proven.

4. Dealing with supposed cheaters who paid real entry fees can be problematic.

Polar, how do they check the top players games, for such cheating methods. There was last night on chess.com world speed chess championship. Amish girl, Grishuk etc, those beasts were all playing..

Well, some were caught cheating in the past and locked out of chess.com. The difference is titled players have verified profiles and risk their reputation, so cheating is less prevalent there. Second, it was mere blitz, where mirroring is impossible and engines require chessbots, and it can be detected. Also, collusions are hard in the fast swiss tournament.
