I like our grading system. why do you need numbers in the thousands when a smaller number can do just fine.

good point but why doesn't england be like everyone else??

Because it's better to stand out rather than follow the crowd.

Indeed, uniqueness is a sign of superiority. That is why enlightened individuals like ourselves like to display our birth years(or other years of significance) in our usernames.

Now, where would be the fun in that?

To be fair, it's pretty funny when you hear an English kid and a Welsh kid comparing ratings and looking at each other in amazement grin.png

Does anyone know how the English Chess Federation gradings translate to chess.com blitz ratings? I am 124 ECF and have a blitz rating on chess.com of usually 1500 odd, for example. So does anyone know what someone with an ECF of about 150 would be on here?  Or ECF 190?  etc

I was about 215-220 ECF when I was active, and tend to hover around 2300 blitz on here.

There is no good translation, really. Especially since blitz and standardplay are different disciplines!

I will offer that I often find chess.com blitz and FIDE rating to be roughly similar, maybe up to 100-200 points different, in most cases. It's certainly a more reliable estimator than the daily ratings.

In your case: 124 ECF converts to 1630 FIDE, not too far out I guess.

 Thanks, that's a useful comparison.
