How do I drop out of a Tournament?

Sort:
LeeBradbury

Before the tournament begins, can I choose to leave it?  If so, how?

Just_4Fun

just go to the main tournament page...and where you pressed "join" initially there will now be a "withdraw" button

LeeBradbury

Thanks a bunch.

Just_4Fun

no probs Smile

LeeBradbury

Where exactly is the withdraw button?  I don't see it.

LeeBradbury

Never mind, I found it.  Thanks.

Beware !!
Nasty things can happen when you leave a tournament following an incorrect procedure. It happened to me and...  I lost my 10 games and lost over 450 rating points..

probably because you left when you still had games left in progress for that round...and games you have going at the time you withdraw are automatically forfeited and thus credited with a loss

I left tournament without making any move. Some rules say that in that case you do not lose rating. But the applicable rules are not easy to find on chess.com, and yes.. in  some cases you DO lose rating points. Even the FAQ lists do not provide full answer as to how to do it without losing rating. Thus >> beware, and check before you act.

when you leave a tournament with games in progress you lose them...its that simple...the only "rules" would be if the tournament was unrated...in that case you could leave whenever you wanted

Dear Just4Fun
I don't care to have lost those games! Read my text again.. its not about losing games, its about losing rating points. I believe you missed the point..
My point: follow the wrong procedure then you lose rating, follow the right procedure and you keep your rating.Cry
I am also sorry that my present opponents stand to loose extra rating (but only when I win ofcourse Wink) just because I followed wrong procedure.

Just_4Fun

so just follow the correct procedure...meaning don't leave a tournament with games in progress or you'll lose them along with your precious little rating points...

Simon1947

I believe you still don't get it..
I hope for you that you will never unwillingly and unknowingly make a dumb mistake in your (chess)live such as I did.
I just hope that other readers will learn from this and that they do have a look at the rules before they withdraw from any game to avoid being sorry later on.

Bye for now.
