Section for First OTB Tournament

Greetings!

I recently joined the USCF, and I am looking forward to playing in my first tournament in Dayton. The problem is, I am not sure which section I should enter since I am an unrated player. Should I just jump into the Open and see what happens? I am considering the Open or the U-1400 section.

Looking at your rating here, you'll probably have decent games in the Open, depending on how strong the event is.

Thank you, Martin. I only recently had a surge in rating (upon reading through The Amateur's Mind by Silman). I am wanting to attend the Gem City Open in Dayton, OH in June. I am not sure how strong that event will be.

You can look at last year's event to get a rough gauge.

 You should play in U - 1400 section. In the Open you'd probably loose all your games
