Vacation versus No Vacation

Reducing vacation time to one month per year would reduce the abuse. Surely enough?

I dislike and would never enter another "vacation" tournament.  People abuse it and hold everyone up for an extended period of time which takes the fun out of it.

I've currently got an opponent in a 3 day Daily team match. He usually leaves it until into day 2 to move, sometimes with minutes left. He recently took a a vacation too! So I sympathise with the posters who dislike vacation time-outs. However, they can be used for essential breaks like work commitments and hospitalisation - so they have their place. Avoid tournaments which allow them if you don't like the disruption. I've started to decline matches against players with an average time per move of 12hrs +

Perhaps what is needed to do is to report anyone we suspect of abusing the 'sportsmanship' ethos, and chess.com to sanction them once there's enough evidence (complaints) against them. I'm preparing something to post on this, and try to get the site admin to take action

Well... I guess I'm the devil in this situation... I don't actually activate my vacation as it's only in use when I'm busy and cannot play for some time (I have 80+ games or something right now btw) and sometimes I just need to take a break from chess so I use my vacation for a couple days. Before you say someone's abused vacation time, check how many games they have and if they haven't been online for some time please!

This site should use traditional correspondence time controls like 40 days for 10 moves.  

Reducing vacation time to one month per year would help. If I have enough daily games on the go then the procrastinators are way down the screen and do not bother me.

No vacation for sure! especially if fairness is important since vacation is only available to some players anyways.

I am a tournament director, have 80+ active tournaments running now. I always go for no vacation. I Have done a couple of 6 and ten player tournaments which started in june as its holiday season here. Otherwise its a big no from me.

If anyone wants to play in 6-10 player mini tournaments let me know, all ratings.
