What do Tournament Directors do?

Fredrik32724

OK, it looks like I can create a tournament.  If I think there's an unmet need, I can fill out the form and create a tournament.  Later on, I can launch the tournament, assuming I didn't set it up to autolaunch.

Then what?  Is the tournament director actually have anything specific to do during the tournament?  Or is it merely the person that launched it.  What's the time commitment?

I have no idea.

Create one and find out,

I'd rather not create one, find out that there's a lot I have to do that I can't do, and let down the people that signed up.

In the old days some of em got paid pretty well for staging weekend events.

I meant here, on Chess.com.

Really the tournament director has no other capabilities except for kicking out players and also posting announcements.

It is really not much work you must do.

Thanks to all.  Once my Daily Rating bottoms out to where it probably belongs, and I qualify to create a Tournament, I'll probably do so.   A Tournament for us bottom dwellers.

Do you have to be a paid member to create tournaments?  Also can you play in the tournaments that you create?

I think you have to be a paid up member to be able to create tournaments. https://support.chess.com/customer/en/portal/articles/1444843-how-do-membership-levels-free-vs-premium-affect-access-to-turn-based-tournaments-

People who create tournaments can play in them as long as they are within the rating range.
