15 - Auto-Start tournament when registration is full

Sort:
TadDude

An advanced option.  Default is auto-start "on".

Tip: Auto-start only where there are no conditions that have to be manually enforced.

If there are conditions where the TD may have to remove registrants, the tournament should be on manual start.

- Any tournament where unwanted registrants can enter, will have ineligible registrants.

- Some may figure it out but not know how to withdraw so have to be removed.

 - An example of a manually enforced condition is where the players must fly a certain flag.

Mandatory Personal Preference: Manual start.

- Most of my tournaments are ratings restricted.

- All tournaments with a specified ratings range should be monitored so players can be removed.

It is a usual for some participants' ratings to rise over the course of a tournament.

- Registrants become quite annoyed when other peoples' ratings rise above the nominal registration range.

- Once the tournament starts I do not remove the high rated players.

FAQ: When does it start?

Tournaments on auto-start will start when the quota is filled.

Whether on manual or auto-start, the tournament director can manually start a tournament if there are more than two players.

The maximum registration period is 90 days, after which the tournament is deleted.  http://www.chess.com/forum/view/premium_members/where-have-my-tournaments-gone

Help Topic: How do I withdraw from a tournament?

http://www.chess.com/tournaments/help.html#withdraw

Withdrawing from tournaments where the player has active games

"You are allowed to withdraw from a tournament at any time using the Withdraw link located on the right hand side of any tournament homepage. However, withdrawing from a tournament while you have games in progress will automatically cause you to forfeit all of the tournament games on time which will negatively affect your timeout % ratio and your rating, even if no moves have been made."

Note the text in red is incorrect. If a player withdraws all active games are resigned. Some would prefer to time out in games where there have been three moves or less. These short time outs do not affect ratings and the timeouts are discarded after 90 days.

Withdrawing from tournaments before the start

No impact on ratings. No impact on withdrawal statistic.

Withdrawing from tournaments, between rounds, where the player has active games

No impact on ratings. Withdrawal statistic updated.
