Nakamura!
Best Blitzplayer in the 20th century?
Sort:
I talked about the 20th century. As for today each year since 2006 world blitz championship has been organized. Grischuk has won three times and Carlsen two times. Nakamura has not won any title yet, so its hard saying he is the best in the world right now. It is in this championship they decide whos best, not by crushing amateurs on internet...
Ok that was maybe a little bit harsh, but i think Nakamura has to prove that he is better than Carlsen or Grischuk.
If you read about chessblitz on the net, there is always talk about Fischer being the best blitzplayer because he won at Herzeg Novi in 1970. Of course Fischer is one of the best, but you cant generalize based on just one tourmanent i guess. I 1959 Tal won the blitz tournament in Belgrade as it took pace at the same time as the candidate tournament. It was according to Gligorics book about the tornament: the strongest blitz tournament up to that time. Moreover Tal wins the first official world champ in blitz at St.John in 1988 crushing Jusupov in the final. You can all see this tournament at You tube! Its 30 years between 1959 and 1988! And Tal is the best on both occasions. And he was number two at Herzeg Novi in 1970 after Fischer. Not to mention that it was he, a sick man, leaving the hospital to play at his beloved Moscow blitztournament in 1992, and there he came third. One of the players he won against was Kasparov, and that was only one month before his death. Surely Misha was the greatest blitzplayer!
