That I lose a game is not the issue. It is how I lose the game that is the real issue.

If I did not put my utmost effort into the game and I lost, then I have done an injustice to myself and to my good opponent. I should look inward and ask why I did not put more effort.

If I did put effort into the game and yet still lost, then I must thank my opponent for giving me an opportunity. I should look hard at myself and ask how I could improve my ways. I should ask what can I emulate or learn from my good opponent.

That should be the way of a true student of chess.
