I spend my time outdoors as much as possible hiking, golfing, gardening in summer and skiing in winter. My wife and I travel a lot. Our last big trip was to Cuba for a month. Before that, Ecuador and Peru for 2 months in April-June in '08. India, S.E. Asia and Europe are some of our favorites. I learned chess very young (about 6) and played off and on as a kid. When I began teaching, one of the requirements was to be involved in extra-curricular activities and so I started a chess club. In the begining I only had a few interested members but then I got a brainwave. If a kid would bring a non-player to the meeting, and teach him/her the moves, they would both get an ice-cream. The club grew exponetially and soon there were articles in the local paper and more than 100 kids in each tournament. I even had one boy make it to the Canadian championship for his age and came in 4th. I'm not a great player ( about 1500 is as high as I get) but do love the game.
