My name is Victor Feria. I currently live in the Chicago Area. I was a competitive chessplayer in the early 70s but dancing superceded my desire to play chess. I became a competitive ballroom dancer throughout the years. But after my legs could no longer keep up with the young competitors I came back to my first love - chess. I also became an avid golfer which gave me the motto "Golf by day, dance by night". That changed to "Golf by day, dance by night and play chess anytime." Now I am back to competitive chess. I try very hard to improve my rating although I know it is a little more difficult to do at my advanced age. Oh, well... I still enjoy the competition.
Besides sports, I involve myself in electronics as a hobby and recently started a project building a cheaper version of the DGT board. The plan is to utilize RFID technology. Woodworking is another hobby that I enjoy doing during the summer. In fact, I built a $1500 chess table for as litlle as $300. (see gallery: http://www.pinoychess.com)
Educated in Chemical Engineering, I migrated to the U.S. in 1967 and worked in research with Glidden Paints and Nazdar/KC for over 20 years. While working in research, I realized that knowledge in computer programming was necessary. I enrolled in Computer Science with emphasis in Pascal and C++ languages. I am now a consultant in Healthcare Informatics (http://www.pogeesys.com).
