Hi, I'm Ronald.  I am a Zimbabwean living in Angola.  I was born and grew up in Zimbabwe till just over a decade and a half ago. I now live in Luanda, Angola.  I love the game.

My daughters, learning the game, category winners in their school tournament

How it all started.

I was first introduced to chess in my home town primary school - Moray Primary by one British Exchange Teacher Mr. Jones.  I am forever indebted to him.  I didn't play it much in primary as we did not have a chess club.

When I made it to high school, one of the first things I did was join the Gifford High School Chess Club.  I spent six solid years playing chess like an addict.  I learned a lot during that time, made a lot of chess friends, participated in school matches and some team chess tournaments in Harare and Masvingo (Zimbabwe).  I cherish the memories I have of my time spent in the high school chess club.  Thank you to DC Beere and Orlando Fernandes for being dedicated chess teachers in charge of chess.  You made my time in the chess club a memorable experience.

After High School

I was "chessed out" and shunned the game.  I didn't get any of the formal training I needed apart from game practice and that frustrated my stunted progress in chess.  I thus wanted to do other things.  University life on campus kept me busy on other fronts.

Decades Later - Return of the Prodigal Son (Dec-2011)

I discovered Chess.com and I couldn't believe the site.  Its an awesome site!  I've been a Diamond member since and have a game going all the time.  I love Chess.com!  Its good to be back in chess, my love for the game was rekindled .

I am now a Chess Activist and passing on the game to primary and secondary students in the international school I work in as an admin officer, and beyond.  I helped create a continous Chess Club at the school, and formed key partnerships in order to run an after school chess programme.  The response from the kids has been fantastic.  We had our first internal school tournament in September 2011.  Approx. 45 students signed up to what was then a novel idea.  Then another in March 2012 (http://www.chess-results.com/tnr68640.aspx?lan=1) - 87 participants.  We haven't looked back ever since.  Since then we've hosted several chess tournaments, and recently hosted our first Team Chess Tournament event.  It was an awesome experience which the kids enjoyed.  I am learning so much about chess and chess organisation in the process.

My Chess Horizon

I need to play consistely to at least the 2000 rating level, play in more tournaments in person, contribute to or form a vibrant chess club(s).  I want to live my love for the game.  I am living my love for the game.  I have big plans to help grow and promote the game.  Join me in my crusade, if you too want to spread your love for the game.
