Basic Description[Last Updated 7/2/2016]
Became VA State Amateur Chess Champion at age 14.
I have had a USCF rating floor of 2000 since August 2005 after winning clear first in the U2000 section in the 2005 Atlantic Open.
Since July 2014, I have held the USCF Candidate Master title.
I tied for 2nd in the Open Section of the 2013 VA State Chess Championship where I was the only person to not lose to (rather win against) the state champion for that year.
Currently, I have a Bachelor's in Biomedical Engineering from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Master's degree in Applied Statistics from Penn State University.
Current Ratings (as of 7/2/2016):
USCF Standard = 2118
FIDE Standard = 2007
How long have I been playing chess for?: (as of 2014) 18 years
Were you ever competitive in chess?: When I was growing up, I was competitive in chess since I was exceptionally good at it (i.e. ranked in the top 50 for my age group in the US from 4th grade until senior year in high school). But when I graduated from high school into college, I became too busy with college work and social life to play chess competitively. As of right now, I still play chess; but not as much and as competitively as I used to.
What has chess given you?: Higher self-esteem (since I was good at the game), life-long friendships, and a hobby that I will be active in for the rest of my life.
What do you do outside of chess?: Running, fantasy sports (NCAA March Madness and NASCAR), video games, and hanging out with friends
Who is your favorite musician and why?: Eminem is my favorite musician because I can relate to his music more than any other musician's music.
Subjects I Tutor In: Chess, Algebra I-II, Geometry, Trigonometry, SAT Math, ACT Math, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus AB, AP Statistics, Calculus I, College-level Statistics, Probability, GRE Quantitative, PRAXIS Math, Graduate-level Statistics
