I have had a life long interest in chess starting in my early teens. Almost all of my competition has been via correspondence chess. For me, chess is for relaxation and the fun involved in being creative. As for more serious things, I am an evangelical Christian, and believe that all truth is grounded in God. I am convinced this is the only reasonable and scientific way to account for why we are doing anything at all: like enjoying our beloved game of chess.
