I learned the rules of chess in New Orleans when I was 18 (thank you Paul Kilbourne) When I couldn't understand why I kept losing to my neighbor in Denver (thanks for the rivalry Bobby Smith) I checked out a copy of "Modern Chess Strategy" by Ludek Pachman. That was a real eye-opener and my first glimpse into the ideas behind chess. I soon started having my revenge on Bobby and have been geeking out on chess ever since.
