My son got a chess set for christmas a few years ago. Neither of us knew how to play --- he got tired of it and I got addicted. I haven't gotten very good (maybe because I don't have the willpower to study) but I love to play. I was in a war a long time ago, and a comrade-in-arms named Tom Hughes wanted me to learn to play so he'd have someone to play against. I was not interested and he was very angry with me for a couple weeks. I thought he was acting like a baby, but now I understand his anger. Without a computer, I'd never play. And that would be worse than getting my kings and queens forked all day long. (Believe it or not, sometimes I get in a groove where I can whip or tie just about anybody ... and I don't understand how it can just come and go)
