The 97th edition of the British Chess Championships is underway in Canterbury, England.

The championship runs from 25 July - 7 August and features a number of events based on age or rating, as well as the main championship which is an 11-round Swiss.

Top seed and clear favourite is the English #1, Mickey Adams (2706 Elo). Last year's winner David Howell is absent as he is currently playing at the Biel Young Grandmasters Tournament.

Following Adams in the ratings are Nicholas Pert and 2008 winner Stuart Conquest.

The games start at 14:15 local time (GMT+1), and the official site has a live games broadcast here, a webcam here, and live commentary by IM Andrew Martin at this link.

The latest developments can also be followed via the tournament's Facebook and Twitter pages.
