Greetings to all Asian League countries, teams, admins and players!

AL Management is pleased to announce that the Asian League's 2022 AL Chess960 competition is now being organised. Here's how it will work:

  • Play will start in late January 2022. Subsequent rounds will start on the same day each month.
  • Teams will be divided into two divisions. Returning teams will be placed according to their performance in the 2021 competition. Any new team entering the competition will start in Division Two.
  • Division One teams will need a minimum of twelve (12) players, while it takes only three (3) active players to make a team for Division Two.
  • The minimum number of completed correspondence games for a player to be eligible to compete will be six (6), with both Standard and Chess960 games being taken into account.
  • The competition will be conducted over a maximum of nine rounds The system to be used in each division – Round Robin or Swiss - will depend upon the number of entries and will be announced at the start of the competition.
  • Provided there are sufficient other entries, the top two teams from 2021 Division Two will move to Division One, and the bottom two teams from Division One will move to Division Two. So as to have a better spread of teams across the two divisions, one or more other teams may also be promoted or demoted, as decided by the AL Management.
  • In case any team wishes to be placed in a particular division they should mention this when re-registering.
  • For each match won, the winning team receives 1 point.
  • For each match lost, the losing team receives 0 points.
  • For each match drawn, the teams receive 0.5 points each.
  • No points are received by any team for a bye in Round Robin tournaments, whereas 1 point is received for a bye in Swiss system events.
  • Individual players' scores may be subject to adjustment as per Rule 14.
  • Vacation time is allowed in all matches.

We're looking to finalise the entries by this month, with Round 1 to be announced shortly afterwards. To give teams plenty of time, for each round we'll be allowing 15 days for filling the places. So now it's time to register your country's team! PLEASE USE THIS PAGE TO REGISTER, AND DON'T FORGET TO NOMINATE TWO OF YOUR ADMIN MEMBERS AS CONTACT REPRESENTATIVES.

There are no rules changes this year, but we still strongly advise all team representatives to check out the Asian League Rules and Regulations  and make sure they fully understand them!

Thanks all, and here's to another great Asian League event!
