In 2017 the Mumbai Movers just barely made the playoffs and then lost to Magnus Carlsen's Norway Gnomes in the first round. This year the Movers aren't going to be happy with anything other than a division title, as they have signed the former world champion Viswanathan Anand to their roster.

"A lot of new events are happening in chess and it is good to try them out," Anand told the Hindustan Times. "The league is a very interesting tournament that has taken the best of chess' sporting qualities. The speed and use of technology is a good platform to provide a lot of entertainment to spectators around the world."

Anand, a five-time world champion and one of the true legends of our game, doesn't need any introduction. Instead, let's have a look one more time at his splendid victory as Black over Levon Aronian from Wijk aan Zee 2013—he recently named it one of his favorite games of all time.

Anand's reaction right after the game, at the 75th Tata Steel tournament.

Anand called the Mumbai Movers a "balanced team" that has "a lot of ambitious guys like Vidit and myself." With that, he was referring to the rising 2700+ star, Vidit Guthraji. This means that Mumbai could be the first team in league history to use two 2700s in the same match.

Vidit is the fourth Indian to ever cross the rating of 2700. He is currently the third-highest-rated chess player in India after Anand and Pentala Harikrishna. In 2008, he won the World Youth Chess Championship in the sub junior category (Open U14), becoming the first Indian to do so. He finished 2nd in the U16 category of the World Youth in 2009 and in 2013 Vidit won the bronze medal at the World Juniors in Turkey in the U20 category.

Other players on the team, which is sponsored by RBS Sportsethix, are GM Swapnil Dhopade, GM Abhimanyu Puranik, GM Abhijeet Kunte, IM Harshit Raja and FM Raunak Sadhwani.

As the Movers' team manager informed us, RBS Sportsethix has supported the game of chess in a big way and have motivated young talent throughout the country.
