Congrats to Sam Copeland,  Mike Sailer, CheckmateB4Material, anpu3, KassySC ,RadSun09,  who played last Saturday!  Another competitive match unraveled and this time it was Columbia who came out on top by the slimmest of margins 6.5-5.5!  The games in this match were so sharp and exciting to witness.  I felt it would be a special day when the first wild game was completed by RadSun09 claiming the point and then another sharp game by RadSun finishing the second game before any other games completed.  Sam Copeland's sharp dragon did the trick by forcing his opponent to trade the queen for 2 rooks and the finding some nifty endgame tactics to give us our second point.  Mike Sailer's London's Systems just ripped apart Black's king side giving us our third point.  We had solid play by KassySC and anpu3 to round out the side and after all the first round games were complete Huntsville was in the lead 5-3.

Sam Copeland and Mike Sailer and anpu3 gave us points to setup and tie the match the crucial and decisive game by CheckmateB4Material and his opponent's swashbuckling Kings Indian Defense.  CheckmateB4Material didn't plan when he woke up to be the hero of the day but he stepped up big!  Holding on with white in an ever increasing pressurized position, white defended like a Spartan 300 and had the Bishop and Knight vs the lone Rook with multiple passed pawns. Both under 20 secs each, Black slipped with Ra8, a square he had controlled most of the game but in the end CheckmateB4Material's Bishop was covering the light squares on the H1-A8 diagonal.  Columbia wins 6.5 5.5!!  The Columbia team carried CheckmateB4Material off the field on their virtual shoulders.

Our next match is this Saturday, June 13th at 1:00pm EDT against Aurora CC 2012 from Aurora, Ontario CA.  We need 4 minimum and need to have more for this match as they have a large club.   I hope you can spare an hour to play 2 games.  Please let me know if you can play so I can get a feel for the turnout.
