County Championships and over the board chess clubs

Hello everyone

This news article is about the County Championships that are taking place on chess.com

Staffordshire are currently in three separate competitions.  An open competition where anyone can take part, and two rated competitions, an under 1,600 rated competition, and also an under 1,200 rated competition.

The next match will be a match against Renfrewshire Rooks which will start on Friday 7th May.  The link to the match is here: CC21 D2 R7 Renfrewshire Rooks vs Staffs - Chess.com

I would encourage anyone to join in with the matches, because I am sure that whatever your existing skill level, you will be able to find two competitive games within this.

Furthermore I hope you are all well under the current circumstances.  I know it is a bit of an understatement to say that is has been a difficult time for everyone.

We do now however appear to be slowly easing ourselves out of lockdown, and close to resuming over the board chess at local chess clubs.

I would encourage anyone who has not already done so to join their local over the board chess club, once we can resume over the board chess.

Joining an over the board chess club usually accelerates a person's learning curve of the game and it is also good for social interaction which I know people have missed over the last year.

As I am chairman of my local over the board chess club, Brewood Chess Circle which is in South Staffordshire, I would encourage anyone local to Brewood to contact me on this website, if they want me to answer any questions.

However I am aware Staffordshire is a big county, so even if Brewood is not local to you, I would still say that there should be another chess club that will be.

Hoping everyone is keeping well, and that we will be back playing over the board chess soon.
