DCA

About DCA: 

The club is being run/functioning in the name of beloved chess lover late Dakshinamoorthy Sir (Age 92), who is a great chess enthusiast. He has dedicated his entire life to the growth of chess. DCA was established in the year 2011 and is a well renowned chess club supported by its 48 members. 

Membership: 

First month Rs 400/- (which includes an one time club registration fee of Rs 200/-) thereafter Rs 200/- (per month) from second month onwards. The membership fee is the lowest when compared to all other chess clubs because the aim of the club is to "promote and nurture chess among poor people & to be more focused on the growing kids". Members: 

DCA club members form a diverse group with its members being Chess Coaches, High FIDE Rated Chess Players, Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, Caterers Police etc., DCA has a dedicated Whatsapp group for its members to share their views and ideas regarding CHESS. The members consists of some Indian nationals settled in  Foreign countries & other states in India also. 

Professional Infrastructure and Functioning: 

The club is well-equipped with many professional chess sets, digital chess clocks, tables, chairs, water can, etc., inside the club premises (DCA  Velachery, Chennai).  Hence the players need not carry any chess kits for play. The working hours is 9 am to 9 pm. The club has an inbuilt library with more than 35 chessbooks. The members can access/read these books according to their choice inside the premises. The club has a well-built setup consisting of a president, secretary, organising secretary, treasurer, administrator and a librarian for its organized way of functioning.  DCA has an executive committee board. Any decision regarding the club is taken only with the approval from members of the executive committee board.

ACTIVITIES: 

Pre-Pandemic Activities: 

1. Bimonthly "guest chess lectures" by high rated chess players for its DCA members FREE of cost in DCA premises. Generally, the duration of such guest lectures will be for 2 hrs  with a half an hour interactive session at the end of the lecture & also 10 mts tea break. 

2. Daily puzzle was posted in the DCA members Whatsapp group. Members presence  will be made known through WhatsApp & we have the facility to choose our playing partners. 

3. Weekly two free online tournaments.

 4. Weekly one paid DCA members physical tournament(Internal) with cash prizes. The prizes will be given to prize winners from entry fee cash collection & distributed without any deductions on the basis of merit ratio. The physical tournament is conducted in a professional manner with chess boards, chess clocks, a fide Certified Chess Arbiter, Swiss computer pairing program, Free  tea/coffee along with snacks during the tournament breaks.  The entire cost is bourne by the club. 

5. Monthly one paid online open tournament with cash prizes is organized. In this tournament both DCA and NON-DCA members are allowed to participate. The Prizes will be given to prize winners in the merit list from entry fee cash collection & distributed on the merit ratio after deducting Rs.250/- from the prize money.

6. Monthly one paid physical tournament open to all with cash prizes & Category prizes for children in the form of cups & medals for both DCA and NON-DCA members.  The prizes will be given to prize winners in the merit ratio.  The physical tournament is conducted in a professional manner with chess boards, chess clocks, a fide Certified Chess Arbiter, Swiss Computer pairing program, free tea/coffee along with snacks during the tournament breaks. Certificates will be issued to all participants. 

7. The club is open to its members daily for those wanting to play chess over a physical board along with a clock. The DCA Members can also access/read books from the in-built DCA library.

Post Pandemic Activities: 

1. Daily two free online tournaments in chess.com. One of the online tournaments will be conducted in the "afternoon" and the other online tournament will be conducted in "night"  at 8.30 pm

2. Daily puzzles are posted in the DCA member's Whatsapp group. 

3. Weekly one paid DCA members online tournament (Internal) with cash prizes is being conducted. The prizes will be given to prize winners in the merit list from entry fee collection & distributed without any deductions and purely on the basis of merit ratio.  

4. Monthly one paid online tournament (External) with cash prizes where both DCA and NON-DCA members can participate. The prizes will be given to prize winners in the merit list from the entry fee collection after deducting Rs.250/- & the rest of the amount is shared to the prize winners in the merit ratio.

5. Bimonthly GM chess analysis explained by one of DCA highrated chess players in GOOGLE MEET app is being planned.

6. Almost weekly one sponsorship tournament is being organized since many of our members are willing to pay.

7. Monthly two ENTRY FREE open to all  but prize money carrying tournaments which are funded from DCA are being  conducted.
