Hamburg Swashbucklers Ready For A Fight
The Hamburg Swashbucklers boast a consistent lineup that will give opposing teams fits.
What the German squad lacks in superstar names it more than makes up for in chemistry. Hamburg is the quintessential team that makes fans wonder if stacking the top boards is a better strategy than buoying your average rating with high-rated bottom boards.
Team manager IM Aljoscha Feuerstack told Chess.com, "All our team members are currently living in Hamburg or have a strong connection to the city. The unifying reason for our participation is our shared love of the game. We are also quite ambitious. The strength of our line-up is our team spirit and our will to fight. We don't need world-class players to compete as a world-class team."
GM Niclas Huschenbeth
About the league: "I love the idea of having a global league in which teams from cities all over the world come together and compete against each other."
Niclas is currently studying industrial/organizational psychology at the Free University of Berlin. His greatest success or achievement to date was winning the German Chess Championship in 2010. While academic studies don't allow Niclas to compete in many tournaments, he keeps in touch with the chess community through his YouTube channel, where he provides chess analyses and instructive lessons. Here he is taking on Twitch.
IM Aljoscha Feuerstack
“I find the idea of a global chess league of cities very attractive. I'm happy to be part of it. I'm currently studying Slavic linguistics at Hamburg University. While my own chess ambitions are currently somewhat on hold, I stay involved with chess by helping my chess students to improve their game."
IM Dmitrij Kollars
Born in 1999, Dmitrij is the youngest member of our team. His Elo is already beyond the grandmaster level of 2500 and still rising steadily. We will certainly see more of him in the future.
IM Jonathan Carlstedt
Jonathan is very active, not only as a strong player, but also as a chess coach, writer and organizer of chess events. He is very happy to be part of the league as he appreciates its potential to make chess more popular.
IM Georgios Souleidis
As an online editor and chess coach, Souldeidis says, "Chess is a big part of my life, privately and professionally.” Souleidis is a many-time Greek team champion and has won several open tournaments.
FM Julian Kramer
Julian is excited about the high level of competition in the PRO chess league. He is 19 years old and studies psychology. His next goal in chess is the international master title.
With a contingent of strong local players rated above 2400, the Hamburg Swashbucklers will be en garde and prepared to battle for the PRO Chess League title. Fear them ... if you dare.
The PRO Chess League welcomes the Hamburg Swashbucklers!
