Alexei Shirov won his first game at the 2011 Biel International Chess Tournament in the third round, beating Fabiano Caruana in a long struggle.

Magnus Carlsen was held to a draw in a complicated and interesting game with Alexander Morozevich, and Yannick Pelletier played his best game so far but only managed a draw against Maxime Vachier-Lagrave.

Tomorrow is the first rest day, so round four is on Friday.
