Long ago we missed the 75th birthday of Barbara Carrera, who of course for our interest was Fatima Blush in Never Say Never Again 1983, albeit not in the main franchise but in Connery’s disputed return to 007, which was filmed in Malta, the Bahamas and the Alpres Maritimes in France and Almeria, Andalucia, Spain plus at Elstree Studios, Borehamwood, Hertfordshire; she was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress, which was also not usual for a Bond girl. Born in Bluefields, Managua, Nicaragua to an America father and Nicaraguan mother, she moved to America on her parents separating and was educated at Saint Joseph Academy, Memphis, Tennessee. She moved to New York at age 16 initially starting in modelling and appearing in Vogue, Glamour, Harper’s Bazaar, Playboy & Cosmopolitan & did TV ads Chiquita Banana; she was nominated for a Golden Globe as New Star of the Year for The Master Gunfighter 1975, then made Embryo 1976 with Rock Hudson, The Island of Dr Moreau 1977, Centennial 1978-9, Masada & I, the Jury 1981, Lone Wolf McQuade 1983 the same year as the Bond film and became known for sinister femme fatale roles, also appearing in Dallas 1985-6 through to an appearance in Judging Amy 2004. She is also a celebrated artist, particularly with her oil painted celebrity portraits which were exhibited at the Hollywood Entertainment Museum in 2002, but also exhibits in Beverly Hills & London. She has spent long times in Florida, where her mother came to live and has lived in Beverly Hills & Bel Air, and currently lives in San Clemente, California.
