Recently we lost a great actor in Christopher Plummer, who passed away aged 91. The oldest ever Oscar winner for Beginners in 2010, his career was full of awards and nominations and as well as acting fictional roles and excellent in Shakespeare, also the rarity of the triple crown of Oscar, Tony and Emmy he played many historical greats – Rommel in Night of the Generals 1967, Atahualpa in Royal Hunt of the Sun 1969, Wellington in Waterloo 1970, Kipling in The Man Who Would be King 1975, Leo Tolstoy in The Last Station 2009, Kaiser Wilhelm II in The Exception 2016, John Paul Getty in All the Money in the World 2017 as well as Captain Georg Von Trapp in The Sound of Music 1965, one of the most popular films of all time (and he had met the real Maria in Vermont). He worked to the end with Knives Out 2019 and the recent series Departure 2020, for which he was planning to return for the next series. He was also a good Sherlock Holmes in Murder by Decree 1979 and appeared as Chang in Star Trek VI – The Undiscovered Country with his long-time friend William Shatner and in subsequent video games, being a long-standing Trekkie. He was the great grandson of Canada’s third Prime Minister and proud of his heritage – born In Toronto, he was raised in Senneville, Quebec and lived in Montreal, also living in London and New York throughout his life but was a long-time resident on his estate in Weston, Connecticut where he passed away.
