    You're right... I shortened this to the first move as I think the point is clear after 1.Ra1. Too many mating alternatives thereafter, 1.Ra1 was the key.

    because, unlike the correct answer to the puzzle, Ra1, your Bishop move, Bb6, will take longer to mate, if you can mate at all. Black obviously wants to trade Queens in this position, because White's down material, because a Bishop was sac'd to tear open the Pawn structure. what if Black responds to your move with Qd7 ?
