So, I've never played in a tournament and I see that one is starting up and I say, what the heck (?) and sign up.  My rating is 1570 or something, I figure that I won't embarrass myself, I sign up.  I get notified that it's game on.  I see about 7 or 8 other players and figure, ok Mike, give it your best shot.  Then, I click on some of the tourney icons and see that there are 1400 players in this thing (!!!)  What, is this the world championship?  You gotta get, like, $100,000 for winning this thing.  Are you kidding me?  Plus, my wonderful rating has changed to, like, 1601, so I am now playing in the 1600 - 1800 bracket.  Geesh!

Anyhow, so now I'm playing, like 18 games.  I'm in a game with a guy about 50 rating points above me.  I overcome a sloppy move in the beginning and am up a piece as we get towards the endgame.  Things are looking good.  I am going back between my tourney games and this one.  Back and forth.  Back and forth.  Things are looking good, I am doing ok in the tournament so far and I am ready to put the final squeeze on my open opponent.  I get distracted with all that stuff going on and don't notice that the dude has a rook - rank 1 easy checkmate with my king stuck behind my pawns.  NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!  I hate when that happens!  Especially with these 3 day games, you put so much time into a game that to lose it on a moment's brainfart is agonizing.  Oh well, can I blame it on the tourney?

using vacation time one or two times with the period of 4 or 5 days in one tournament has no matter. but having vacation time with 25 days for several times in one tournament is really annoying.

and i must tell Abhishek2 that none of official tournament like this will be held with "no vacation time" ."no vacation time" is for other tournament.

    all be successful.

Like we begin in life, we crawl, before we walk, chess is no different, 1300's beftepore 1800's take your time and let it do what it do! Real talk, it's all a process , Karpov, Spasskk, Fisher, all the greats we love and respect, crawled befor the became Grandmasters, step by step, one day at a time.... Listen to the words of wisdom! So let it be written, so let it be done! Amen!!!

I enjoy my vacation time, but I don't annoy people on purpose. It's usually because I have some project to do. If you are one of those people who are really impatient, join a "No Vacation" tournament.

To all my chess friends, If I may give an unsolicited advice. In the course of the tournament, if you strongly think that your game is a 'lost'  one, resign and get over it, rather than looking at it over and over and feel sorry. It will affect your other games with that feeling of being down. Accept it,...... we win some, .....we lose some. What's important is you had your fun.

No big deal, resign like a "True Gentleman of the Game".

Or you can fight 'till the end and don't be afraid to face the "guillotine" like a true king of your men. You never know, your opponent might make a 'terrible' blunder and you could save a draw or a win ":-). Everyone will be a winner...winning a friend.... or the appreciation of your opponent.

And if you emerge as the winner, please show your appreciation to your opponent, this way, you not only win the game.....you also win the admiration of your chessmate.......besides.....you both spent time together somehow and kept each other company and maybe comfort by chatting with each other during the game.

Let's put aside that "Hunter Craze" feeeling in us and think of it like we are actually trying to beat our own self. Besides we are what we know in Chess, and our opponent just helps us to improve it.

    Good luck everyone.

I am completely agree with the members who have raised concern about vacation time/ rules abuse. I had pretty bad expereince about tournament where members have taken advantage of rules and regulations and finally I opted to withdraw as I wanted to participate in other higher rated tournament. I hope in this tournament members will show maturity and sporting spirit.
