Hello! I'm James Coleman from England, rated 2290, (now inactive) 48 years old and I started to play chess at age 7. I’ve been a professional chess coach for 25 years.

I've competed in many international tournaments around the world, but since 2015 I have no longer played competitive chess in order to focus on coaching.

As a coach I believe the key to improvement is enjoying the game and setting realistic goals. I'm mostly self-taught in chess so I know what sort of study methods don't work well, and can help you avoid these pitfalls.

Coaching rates for online lessons: $50/1 hour or $60/1.5 hours. In British money that's £40/hr and £50/1.5hrs

Training games (no coaching) in your chosen time control $30 / £25 for 1 hour.
