I went Qb5 first but the fork was much better. Nice puzzle.
Lovely Puzzle with a Lovely Solution!!!
Checkmate threat to win material has to be my favorite tactic.
I dunno about inconspicuous, if I'm playing a decent opponent and he hangs his queen out there like that, I'm gonna assume it wasn't a blunder, and be sure to take a closer look at what's about to happen. Plus, what if White plays 2. Qb3 in response? Could still guard d1 that way it seems, though I didn't look deep into any of the lines to see what eventually comes of it.
queen takes bishop check, with mate to follow. Not having looked at it that closely, I think moving a pawn to give the white king space to escape is the option that delays the end for the longest.
What? I... That was the whole thing?
Qb5 flat out loses, because the queen can capture without surrending control over the rook checkmate: rook moves to the 8th rank and queen can move next to the king. A trade then leaves black with nothing.
pretty easy. if you want to solve these puzzles first thing to do is check how you can sac your queen. if that doesnt work sac one of the rooks somehow. Maybe these sacs are applicable rarely in real games but it should still be good training so you are aware of these options.
I think the word "elegant" best describes this puzzle. Not powerful per se, but it sets up and annihilates the black queen, the only piece that can prevent checkmate.
"elegant" and "powerful" can be a matter of subjectiveness. You can't get caught up in semantics when talking about chess. Since you yourself used the word "annihilates" I would suspect there might be a hint of some power in there. ;) Simply understanding what is being taught is enough. In my opinion any move that begins a path towards a checkmate is very "powerful". How about a comprimise? It's elegantly powerful. ;)
After black makes the first move then white must either give up his Queen or be mated.
How you can sac your queen is the key. My first move ignored the fork and moved to the wrong square for the queen sac. Lesson: Always check for the BEST way to accomplish your intended move.
Mate in 2 no matter what white does. 1 line with rook, 2 with queen
what the crap?
This is the BEST black to play and win puzzle I've ever seen on this site!...WAIT... This is the ONLY black to play and win puzzle I've seen on this site...I think...of course I sould be suffering from old-timers ha ha ha.
Anyway EZ and straight forward. The defender Q must be removed/displaced from the mating ground.
A subtle move is the most damaging. "Brandon Mayer"
