    how about...

    Ng3+  Kxg6

    Qd3+  Kg7

    Qh7#

    does that work?

    Black can move his pawn, and then it's not mate in 3;

    1.Ng3+ Kxg6 2.Qd3+ Kg7 ( 2...f5 3.Qxf5+ Kg7 4.Qh7# ) 3.Qh7#

    But the puzzle doesn't say Mate in 3! These kind of puzzles are stupid unless it clearly states mate in x number of moves.  Plus puzzles with multi-solution not stating Mtae in x number of moves never really improve your game.  I think this is a bad puzzle.

    The title is "

    3/26/2011 - Mate in 3

    "

    The different variations comes across first then black does a different move than in the puzzle. For every given black move in this position (after 1. R1c6!), white has only one response to mate in three.

    Not the only one to find this tough - had to hit Help & I hate that. I wanted to play 1.Nef4 to protect the other knight & threaten mate by Be6 or Qd3 but with the two 'spite' checks by the rook, it takes 4 moves.
    Mind-twister !
