I'll admit it. This one lost me. How is the end of this puzzle a guaranteed DRAW?
Good point! I think it's just that the material is even.
And I can't figure out why the first move isn't 1. Ne4+. Why not?
I think if 1. Ne4+ then 1...Qxe4!! 2. Qxe4 d1=Q+, and black is up a piece for a pawn.
You're right, thanks! Chess.com's solution is better (of course :-): Black and White ends even.
balls to this
Bryan681972 you haven't looked at my last post, there I explained everything. 3... Kg5 4. Qxd2+ Qxd2 5. Ne4+. 2... Kg5 3. Qxd2 Qxd2 4. Ne4+. 1...Qxh4 2. Qe3+! Qf4 3. Qxd2 Qxd2 4. Ne4+. Post the full lines, otherwise some people won't understand you. As you can see there are several posibilities, so dailypuzzle chose the one where there is only solution for white.
I did look at your last post, and you do not have the line 1. h4+ Kxh4 2. Qxe2 Qd4+ 3. Kh2 Kg5 4. Qxd2+ in there. You have that line with 4. Ne4+ being played. There is a big difference.
As you suggest, after 4. Ne4+ then 4...Qxe4 is a draw, or better put, leads to even material for now. If 5. Qxd2+, material is even. If 5. Qxe4 d1=Q, material is even.
However, if 4. Qxd2+, white will end up a full knight ahead. If black responds 4...Qxd2 then 5. Ne4+ followed by 6. Nxd2. If black moves the king on move four then 5. Qxd4, and white is up a queen and knight. If black responds 4...Qe3+ then 5. Qxe3+, and white is up a queen and knight. If black responds 4...Qf4 then 5. Qxf4+ Kxf4, and white is up a knight.
And it's basically the same idea on 1. h4+ Kh4 2. Qxe2 Kg5. If 3. Ne4+ then 3...Qxe4, and material is even for now. But if 3. Qxd2 then white is up a full knight (3...Qxd2 4. Ne4+ followed by 5. Nxd2).
Hopefully this explains it.
I know Bryan, but we're playing for white Black has to make sure they don't do a mistake. So for white those lines are still good.
victorpu, please stop making puzzle spam here. For this you can create your own post and if anyone is interested he'll look there.
