On the start date it will be the 65th birthday of Sean Bean. Born in Handsworth, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, and now on the Sheffield walk of fame and with an honorary doctorate at the University of Sheffield and the winner of the Yorkshire award, he worked in his father’s welding firm before deciding to act; attended RADA (won a silver medal and two fencing medals) in London and performed onstage in many productions including for the Royal Shakespeare Company, of which he is now a Member, making his professional stage debut as Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet in Newbury 1983. Constantly busy over decades now, he has 122 screen credits and currently seven projects in production. Known for Patriot Games 1992, Lady Chatterley 1993, Richard Sharpe in the Sharpe series 1993-2008, GoldenEye 1995 as 006 Alec Trevelyan, Anna Karenina 1997, Bravo Two Zero 1999, Boromir in The Lord of the Rings trilogy 2001-3, Crusoe 2008-10, Ned Stark in Game of Thrones 2011, The Martian 2015 and has played two mythological Greek gods – Odysseus in Troy 2004 and Zeus in Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief 2010. He has won two BAFTAs as Best Actor – for 2018 Broken & 2022 Time and an International Emmy 2013 for Accused plus numerous other awards; is unfairly often remembered for dying onscreen more than 20 times now. He lives in Belsize Park, Camden in London and has three daughters & four grandchildren and is a massive fan of Sheffield United, has a Blades tattoo and has also achieved an ambition of playing for them, albeit in the film When Saturday Comes 1996. He also follows Yorkshire Cricket Club, and whilst working listens to classical music in his trailer – loves Bach, Vivaldi & Mozart, though he was a big David Bowie fan when younger.
