Welcome to the northernmost chess community in the United States! The Utqiagvik Chess Club is a close-knit group of players from all walks of life — students, elders, professionals, and lifelong locals — united by a shared love for the game.

Our remote Arctic town may be far from the rest of the world, but the spirit of competition and camaraderie is alive and well around our boards. Whether you’re a seasoned player or just learning how the pieces move, you’ll find a welcoming space here.

We gather casually throughout the year for fun matches and friendly rivalry, and each spring we host our Annual Piraaguaqta Chess Tournament, where tradition, strategy, and community pride come together.
