The start date is the 90th birthday of Robert Duvall, who has had an outstanding career as an actor. Born in San Diego, California he grew up in Annapolis, Maryland and was educated in St Louis, Misssouri but achieved a BA in drama at Principia College, Elsah, Jersey County, Illinois. He joined the army for two years stationed in Augusta, Georgia where he began to act and on discharge under the GI Bill he went to New York to study and make his way, sharing an apartment with Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman and as a classmate of James Caan. He began to act there in Long Island and built up a reputation acting also at theatres in Augusta and Virginia. His screen break came with To Kill a Mockingbird 1962 and he has been prolific since then with 143 screen credits, winning an Oscar for Tender Mercies 1983 and six other nominations, four Golden Globes for Tender Mercies, Apocalypse Now 1979, Lonesome Dove 1989 and Stalin 1992 and three other nominations, two Emmys for Broken Trail 2006 and three other nominations, plus a BAFTA for Apocalypse Now and two other nominations, this without mention of The Godfather 1972. He works so hard he has often completed four films in a year. He owns a large estate in rural Virginia, which he describes as heaven and with his Argentinian wife has become a soccer fan with a home in Buenos Aires, but has also become proficient at the Argentine Tango.
