We are some way behind, but we missed the 80th birthday of Faye Dunaway. Born in Bascom, Florida she had an unsettled childhood, with her father in the Army so lived for a time in 1950s in Dugway Proving Grounds in Utah and was there till sophomore year in high school at Dugway, but graduated Leon High School, Tallahassee, Florida. She mainly grew up in Florida and was going into Education at University of Florida in Gainesville, but switched to acting and graduated Boston University 1962. She studied drama at HB Studio in Greenwich Village, New York and gave up a Fulbright Scholarship to RADA for the Lincoln Center Repertory Theater in NYC but gained kudos for A Man For All Seasons in an early stage role then balanced theatre and film including TV even after her breakthrough in Bonnie and Clyde 1968, from which she became a star. Steve McQueen rated her the best actress he had worked with and Jack Nicholson calls her a “gossamer grenade” as she is passionate and uncompromising for her work. She has 115 screen credits which include winning Oscar Best Actress Network 1977 [BAFTA nomination], nominated for Bonnie and Clyde 1968 [BAFTA Most Promising Newcomer] & Chinatown 1975 [BAFTA nomination] – won the Emmy Guest Actress for Columbo 1994 [Golden Globe nomination] – Golden Globes Best Supporting Actress TV mini-series Ellis Island 1985 & Gia 1999, nominated for Running Mates 2001 & nominated Best Actress Barfly. Given a Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame Movies 1996. Other roles remembered will be The Thomas Crown Affair 1968 (with the iconic chess scene), Little Big Man 1970, The Three Musketeers 1973 & The Four Musketeers: Milady’s Revenge 1974, The Towering Inferno 1974, Three Days of the Condor 1975, The Eyes of Laura Mars 1978, The Champ 1979, Supergirl 1984, The Handmaid’s Tale 1990. Having been at the top of box office moved in her later years to direction and production, not so successfully, and her career seemed to downturn after Mommie Dearest 1981 which was not well received, nor performed according to her. She became a devout Catholic from 1996 and drives a 2007 Toyota Corolla. She lives in West Hollywood and has an apartment in NYC on East 78th Street, previously at the sumptuous Eldorado on Central Park West, and also lived in London the entire 1980s with then husband photographer Terry O’Neill and has also lived in Malibu and Beverly Hills.
