On the start date, it will be the 85th birthday of actor Lee Majors, who will best be remembered as Colonel Steve Austin in The Six Million Dollar Man 1971-78 with TV films linked to The Bionic Woman 1987 & 89, maybe also as Colt Seavers in The Fall Guy 1981-86 (which is understood to be referenced in the new film of that name starring Ryan Gosling & Emily Blunt), but he has 131 screen credits and 4 upcoming projects and may also be remembered for The Big Valley 1965-69 (for which he learned to be a cowboy!), The Virginian 1970-71 and Tour of Duty 1990 with many others. In 1977 he was nominated for a Golden Globe as Best Actor for 6 Million Dollar Man and in 2017 the winner of a life career award from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, granted a star on the Hollywood walk of fame for TV in 1984, and has won other awards in different countries. Born Harvey Lee Yeary in Wyandotte, Michigan, he changed his name on advice from no less than Joan Crawford, and his long-time mentor was Barbara Stanwyck from The Big Valley. His home town was Middlesboro, Kentucky where he was brought up by his uncle and aunt and adopted after his parents were killed in separate accidents before he was 17 months old. He was a star athlete at Middlesboro High School and in 1986 they named their football field Lee Majors and in 1991 he was inducted into their Sports Hall of Fame. He achieved a football scholarship to Indiana University, but transferred to Eastern Kentucky University but a promising football career was ended after injury in a game, when he was paralysed from the waist down for a few weeks, after which he was found to have congenital spondylolisthesis, still he achieved a degree in History and PE and later an honorary doctorate and may have become a football coach, but was drawn to acting and moved to Los Angeles, where for a time he worked as Parks & Recreation Director at North Hollywood Park. Has four children from his marriages, which included Farrah Fawcett at the height of their fame and has been married to Faith (who comes from Florida) since 2002, living in Las Vegas, Nevada and Houston, Texas and Beverly Hills. Recent times have not been kind as he has undergone angioplasty and heart bypass surgery.
