Why does black play Bf8 after white plays Qe8+? Why not Kh7?
also could be Qg8#
You are right,Qg8 is a mate to.Good find
No, it's not. 4... Ng7 blocks it.
The first move was a natural choice - one I would make in a game. But I didn't expect my opponent to hand me his black-squares bishop and a path to checkmate in response. I expercted 1. ... Kh7, and I don't see a checkmate from there. In a game, I would probably take the bishop at c8, but I'll look further for a mating line.
EDIT: Oh, now I see it: 1. ... Kh7, 2.g6#
Ng7 block's Qg8#,it looked good, untill someone found Ng7,so don't feel bad your not the only one to miss it
Good puzzle - not at all obvious ! Shows the power of two knights
No, 4.Qg8+ is answered by 4. ... Ng7
And then it is too late for Nf4 to be checkmate because black King can then escape to f5.
just have to involve the other knight
Very nice puzzle.
