# 3/15/2012 - Mate in 4

First we ask -- what if Black had moved 1. ... Kf8 --

UhOh,

1. ... Kf8, 2. Qd6#

So...

After 2. Rxg71! black has several options, but no good ones.

2. ... Kxg7, 3. Qh6+ Kh8, 4. Qxh7#

2. ... Nxf4, 3. Rxh7#

2. ... Nxg7, 3. Qh6 any move, 4. Qh7#

or, as in today's puzzle,

2. ... Ng5, 3. Qxg5 any move, 4. Rxh7#

EDIT: As ndskyking pointed out, by the time I actually submitted this,I had already figured out what happened if 1. ... Kf8, so the note below should have been deleted.

Now I want to look at the lines that would follow had black moved 1. ... Kf8.

I don't think I'm reading the post correctly duff. It says you want to see lines that follow had black moved 1...Kf8, but you already posted the answer to that, 2. Qd6#

I think you meant something else?

good.
