6/14/2007 - Can You Trap The Queen?

  • #1
    Drag the pieces to solve!
  • #2

    a little hard

  • #3

The first move's easy, because it's the only one that attacks the Queen, and the title is, after all, "Can you trap the Queen?". The second move requires more calculation.

        2. Bxf6 Bxd1 (-/+)
        2.Qb1 Qxg5 (-/+)

        2.Qc1 Qxd4 (=/+)

        2.Qxf3 Qxg5 3.Qxb7 Qd5 4.Be4 Qxe4 (+/-), but 2.Qxf3 Qxf3! 3.gxf3(=)

        2.Qd2 Qxd4? 3.Bb5+ (+/-), but 2.Qd2 Bxg2! 3.Bxf6 Bxh1 (+/=)

An interesting point is, to easily see Qd2 as better than Qxf3, you must evaluate a Queen as worth more than a Rook + Knight + Pawn. Euwe & Kramer would disagree.

     strange puzzle

  • #5
Very easy problem - based on the principle of 'not being greedy'.!
  • #6
in light of the fact that 2... Qxd4 loses blacks queen for free then why not play ...Bb4?      then blacks losses are wittled down to a bishop and a poor kingside pawn structure
  • #7
good puzzle but a little hard on the second move but keep them coming

really kinda easy and kinda hard
  • #11
not too hard but it requires deep analysis
  • #12
I don't think that Qxd4 is the best move for Black... The Queen is lost anyway.
  • #13
Nice and easy. (And is not something that you are looking in OTB games, at least not us merely mortals)
