The start date is the 10th anniversary of the passing of Peter Falk, who will forever be remembered for his portrayal of the detective Columbo for 32 years, 1971-2003, for which he won four Primetime Emmys and a Golden Globe and for the former was nominated a further six times and the latter eight. He had a career with 111 screen credits, and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for both Murder, Inc. 1960 & Pocketful of Miracles 1961 and previously won a Primetime Emmy for The Dick Powell Show 1961. Other memorable roles were Robin and the 7 Hoods 1964 with the Rat Pack, The Great Race 1965, Anzio 1968, Castle Keep 1969, Murder by Death 1976, The Brink’s Job & The Cheap Detective 1978, The Princess Bride 1987, The Player 1992 and the voice of Don Feinberg in Shark Tale 2004. Born in The Bronx, New York City he lost his right eye at the age of 3 due to cancer. He graduated from Ossining High School and had become the school president and played in the baseball and basketball teams to a high level too. He was originally set for a career as an accountant, achieving certified status and worked for the Budget Bureau in Hartford, Connecticut, but he became attracted to acting and in his free time studied acting in Westport. Encouraged to pursue this as a career, he then lived in Greenwich Village as he sought acting jobs, with eventual success. He also studied for a political science degree at New School, New York and graduated from Syracuse University. Oh – just one more thing ! Although he had a passion for drawing and sketching, which he pursued in his studio on his estate in Roxbury Drive, Beverly Hills, he also had a great passion for chess and even attended U.S. championships.
