Some while ago it was the 75th birthday of Tyne Daly, who has had an outstanding career on stage and screen, amassing 107 screen credits, but is also renowned on stage, winning a Tony in 1990 for a Gypsy revival and has appeared on Broadway since 1957 & in 2011 was an American Theatre Hall of Fame inductee. Born in Madison, Wisconsin,she was raised in Westchester County, New York and educated at Rockland Community College and Brandeis University, Waltham, Massachusetts. The Enforcer in 1976 with Clint Eastwood [set in San Francisco and finishing at Alcatraz] brought her to global notice after two decades of mostly single episode TV series & movies. She was then in Telfon 1977 with Charles Bronson, but it was Cagney & Lacey from 1981-87 which brought her international acclaim, in the pairing of two women as detectives in the NYPD, for which she won four Emmys in 1983,1984,1985 and 1988. She also won an Emmy in 1996 for Christy, the story of a teacher leaving the city to teach in an Appalachian community in Tennessee, and also one for Judging Amy in 2003 [set in Hartford, Connecticut]. She had ten other Emmy nominations and five for Golden Globes. Growing up and living in New York, she still lives in Mid City, Los Angeles and has properties in Beverly Hills and has been politically active appearing at rallies in Washington DC against the Iraq War in 2003 & recently for Women’s Lives. Recently she has been in Spider-Man – Homecoming 2017 & Murphy Brown 2018. She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1995.
