This begins with three singles by NewJeans, the best K-Pop girl group since their debut EP. The 2nd single from their debut was "Hype Boy", released on 23 July 2022, which remains one of their best. The other two NewJeans singles that I have included are "Super Shy", released on 7 July 2023, which is perhaps their best song, and their latest, "How Sweet", released on 24 May 2024, which I was actually disappointed by, and consider to be far from being their best.

Next, my present-day favorite Latin American singer, Karol G's "Contigo". This is a collaboration with the Dutch DJ, Tiësto, and co-production by Ryan Tedder. The music video features the lesbian singer, Young Miko who plays her love interest.


My favorite Ryan Tedder produced song is "Bleeding Love" by British singer Leona Lewis released back on 16 September 2007.


My favorite Latin American male artist at the moment is Manuel Turizo. He has released two duets with two of my other favorite female Latin American artists, "Copa Vacía" with Shakira, released on 29 June 2023, and "1000COSAS" with Lola Índigo on 8 March 2024.
 

The first Latin American song that I fell in love with was Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito” released back on 12 Jan. 2017.

Returning to K-Pop, the first girl group that I fell in love with was BLACKPINK. It is difficult to pick a favorite song by them, but "Kill This Love", released back on 4 April 2019, is a good example of their personality.

A song that most clearly expresses their playful sense of humor about being sexy is "Ice Cream" released on 28 Aug. 2020 that features the American singer, Selena Gomez.

My favorite K-Pop boy group is BIGBANG, albeit they have been mostly retired since their main rapper, T.O.P. was enlisted for mandatory two-year military service on 9 Feb. 2017 as a conscripted policeman. Of course, such a fate is ridiculous, but it does need to be respected that there is an ongoing conflict between South and North Korea. Anyway, "Bad Boy", released on 29 Feb. 2012, is not their most popular song, but their personality as a boy group is most clearly revealed in the music video.

It won't surprise anyone who has any knowledge of K-Pop that another boy group that I like is BTS, a good example being "Boy with Luv", released on 12 April 2019, that features the American singer, Halsey.

My favorite English-speaking male singer is Justin Bieber, albeit mostly for his early releases. A good example is "What Do You Mean" released back on 28 August 2015.

An earlier song that featured Bieber that year was "Where Are Ü Now", that was released along with the album Skrillex and Diplo Present Jack Ü on 27 Feb. 2015.

The next year Bieber released another song with Diplo, "Cold Water" on 22 July 2016. This was for the latter's collaborative project, a DJ trio named Major Lazer, and it also featured vocals from the Danish singer, MØ. The song spoke most directly to how I was feeling at the time.

The next Justin Bieber song that I loved was when he was featured on a remix of Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito”, a song that has already been included above, though not the remix version. That is when I first started to listen to Latin American music and a few years afterward I also started to listen to K-Pop, so it did have a huge impact upon my taste in music. The “Despacito” remix was released on 17 April 2017, and a few months later Bieber released "Friends" on 17 August.
