I once learned the rules after buying a Rennaisance chess set ...and taught my older brother...we had both been raised on checkers...to play Chess  Unfortunately I stopped at this point and the next time I began I ran into organized Chess and at the age of 23 began to realize what the exploits of Fischer and those who came before and after were all about. a  shame I had not realized what I had after teenage days !
