Hi everyone! My name is Alec Andersen, and I'm a 25-year-old National Master with a peak rating of 2234 USCF. 

Coaching Experience:

I've been coaching formally and informally for over a decade, starting with teaching my high school teammates. One year I helped a teammate become the lowest-rated player to qualify for the state championship! From 2019-2022 I taught after school programs at elementary/middle schools and periodically volunteered at my old high school. Since moving to Virginia, I've been enjoying teaching friends who are just discovering the game or looking to get more serious!

Coaching Methodology:

During our lessons, I primarily focus on reviewing your tournament/serious games; I believe that game analysis is the greatest benefit a coach can provide. Reviewing your games (especially without a computer engine) reveals your strengths and weaknesses and makes you face flaws in your thought process and chess understanding.
