Some while ago we missed the 75th birthday of Kabir Bedi, who for our purpose played the part of Gobinda in Octopussy 1983 (filmed in Udaipur, Rajasthan). This no doubt increased his international fame but he had already become a major star across Europe from an Italian series called Sandokan 1976. His career in 127 screen credits has spanned from Bollywood to Hollywood to Europe and back again, and he also been active on stage in London in The Far Pavilions 2005 and also on stage in Toronto, Canada, and for part of his career he has lived in Los Angeles, as he was in Dynasty 1982-86 and 1994-2005 he appeared in 37 episodes of The Bold and the Beautiful, also making loads of TV series appearances. Born in Lahore, Punjab, British India (now in Pakistan), his father was a Punjabi Sikh who fought for the independence of India from Great Britain and his mother British and born in Derby. Kabir was educated at Sherwood College, Nainital, Uttarakhand, and St. Stephen's College in Delhi, and he started out in Indian theatre and then moved into Hindi films before travelling the world. He was knighted as Cavaliere by Italy after his work with Care & Share Italia, which educates children from kindergarten to university in Andhra Pradesh & Telangana in India, and he is an ambassador for Sightsavers in India, which has had great success entirely because of his popularity.
