The Giuoco Piano opening is a variation of the Italian Game that translates to "slow game". Don't be fooled, though. Black responds to White's center development and pressure on f7 with equal force. This leads to a slow buildup, which carries into the rest of the game. So while the "Quiet Game" may have less action initially, it's a test for both sides!
