Most people, when delving into the culture of chess, tend to write and read about the Great chess players, the Great tournaments and the Great games.  But chess is about far more than those select few things.  In fact, a very real part of the history of chess in inscribed on the common man.

Tyler Frazer alerted me to a photo essay he created called the Kings of California.  It captures the common man in the unique environment of street chess.

I could review it here, but there have been others who have already given their thoughts in a far better manner than anything I could offer:

Alexandria Kosteniuk
Natalia Pogonina

I won't even post a teaser photo - go and view the page for yourself.
